Indiana Dunes National Park is a National Park Service unit on the shore of Lake Michigan in Indiana, United States. A BioBlitz took place there on May 15 and 16, 2009. [1] During that time, a list of organisms was compiled which included a preliminary listing of the (freshwater) fish of the area. [2]

Later in life, it is typically one of the larger species in the waterways. In the northern tier of its range, it lives in deeper streams and lakes and are sought by large predatory fish, such as muskellunge and northern pike. Sometimes it competes with other sucker species and redhorse for breeding habitat.
The fish, caught in the Seven Points area of the lake on March 31, 2010, was 45 inches (110 cm) in length. According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, it took 35 minutes for Wilkins to reel in the fish. [52] The catch beat the previous record of 52 pounds 2 ounces (23.6 kg), caught by Greg Megibben in 2001, also at Percy Priest.

The main campground offers several waterfront campsites. The other campground is west of the lake and is designed for larger recreational vehicles. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has announced plans to drain the lake in the fall of 2008 in order to repair the dam and to eradicate gizzard shad which are detrimental to the fishery. The lake chubsucker (Erimyzon sucetta) is a species of freshwater fish endemic to North America, found in the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River basin, as far north as Ontario, Canada, extending south to the Gulf of Mexico. It is mainly found in lakes, ponds, and swamps, rarely in streams.
