San Jacinto County (/ ˌ s æ n dʒ ə ˈ s ɪ n t oʊ / SAN jə-SIN-toh) is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 27,402. [1] Its county seat is Coldspring. [2] The county's name comes from the Battle of San Jacinto which secured Texas' independence from Mexico and established a republic in 1836.

The downtown district and buildings, as well as most residents, moved south of the original location. San Jacinto County contracted Houston architects Roy E. Lane and Wilkes A. Dowdy for the designs and Price and Williamson for the construction. Construction began in 1916 and finished in 1917.

Coleman County was formed from Brown and Travis Counties in 1858. The county is named for Robert M. Coleman, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. [5] In 1861, Rich Coffey settled the communities of Leaday and Voss. [8] In 1876, the site was chosen for Coleman, the county seat. [9] The community of Santa Anna was established in 1879.
San Jacinto County's first jail was constructed in 1870 out of wood, but as the area grew, the need for a more permanent structure became apparent. [2] The new jail was built in 1887 in the county seat of Coldspring, across from the courthouse in the original town square, at the southeastern corner of Loyd and Slade Streets.
The San Jacinto Building in Beaumont, Texas was built between 1921–1922 and was completed for the San Jacinto Life Insurance Company. The building is 15 stories tall and supports a large clock tower on top. Each dial is 17 feet in diameter. [2]
