The Mizoram Board of School Education was established in 1975 by the MBSE Act. The act was approved by the Legislative Assembly of the Mizoram Union Territory, at that time the administrative head was the Chief Executive Member Ch. Chhunga. The board as an autonomous authority in education started functioning on 2 December 1976. [3]
The office of school education for Mizoram was started in 1973. It became a separate Directorate of School Education in 1989 and is located at McDonald Hill, Zarkawt, Aizawl. The department looks after elementary, secondary, higher education, language development, adult education and physical education within the state.
