It is significant that when Česká zbrojovka started manufacturing these pistols for commercial export it was as the CZ 83, not "CZ 82." Referring to the Vz. 82 as a "CZ 82" is like calling an M9 a "Beretta model 9" rather than using Beretta's own nomenclature of "Model 92FS."
