The Ohio River Water Trail was conceived and developed by Dr. Vincent Troia, Executive Director of the Ohio River Trail Council. [5] The Ohio River Water Trail project originated in 2010 to develop a dedicated safe route for boats that provides a destination for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, small motorized watercraft, and other recreation.
The smaller parcel, 6.2 acres (2.5 ha) in extant is about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) west of the main parcel, located adjacent to the western edge of Raccoon Creek State Park also in Hanover Township. The Game Lands falls within the Raccoon Creek watershed which is part of the Ohio River watershed.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 6.9 square miles (17.9 km 2), of which 6.4 square miles (16.7 km 2) is land and 0.46 square miles (1.2 km 2), or 6.75%, is water. [5] The Ohio River forms Potter Township's northern boundary. Raccoon Creek flows through Potter Township to its confluence with the Ohio. [6]
The headwaters of Raccoon Creek are between Little Sugarloaf Mountain and South Buck Mountain. [3] Raccoon Creek is a small stream, with a width of 2.2 metres (7.2 ft). It has a moderate gradient of 19.9 meters per kilometer. [3] The creek has been known to overflow its banks and flood nearby homes. [6]
