The Border Security Force (BSF) is a central armed police force in India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is responsible for guarding India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh . It was formed in the wake of the Indo-Pak War of 1965 to ensure the security of India’s borders and for related matters.

The Frontier Constabulary is headed by the Commandant, the equivalent of Inspector General of Police (BPS-22 grade) and is popularly referred to as the CFC. Pankaj Kumar Singh (born 19 December 1962) was the 29th Director General of BSF, and an Indian Police Service officer of 1988 batch. He is the son of Ex BSF DG Prakash Singh . [ 1 ] He has been appointed as Deputy National Security Advisor of India in January 2023 for a period of 2 years.
