Vaudreuil-Dorion (French pronunciation: [vodʁœj dɔʁjɔ̃]) is a suburb of Greater Montreal, in the Montérégie region of southwestern Quebec, Canada. The result of the merger of two towns, Vaudreuil and Dorion, it is located in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional County Municipality .
Autoroute 540 (Vaudreuil-Dorion) was a short spur route that connected Autoroute 20 to Autoroute 40, providing a direct freeway link from Windsor, Ontario (via Highway 401) to Quebec City, Rivière-du-Loup, and points east through A-40, as A-20 currently has several at-grade intersections in Vaudreuil-Dorion as a multi-lane divided road.
At km 29, A-20 crosses A-30 (former A-540) before becoming an urban boulevard for approximately eight kilometres (km 30 to 38) in Vaudreuil-Dorion and L'Île-Perrot. This stretch of highway takes A-20 across the Ottawa River. The speed limit is 50 km/h (30 mph) in Vaudreuil-Dorion and 70 km/h (45 mph) in L'Île-Perrot.
The main 143 km (89 mi) segment extends from Autoroute 40 in Vaudreuil-Dorion to Route 133 in Sorel-Tracy. Vaudreuil-Soulanges (French pronunciation: [vodʁœj sulɑ̃ʒ]) is a regional county municipality in Quebec, Canada. It is located on a triangular peninsula in the western Montérégie region of Quebec , formed by the confluence of the Ottawa River to the north, and the St. Lawrence River to the south.
The Canadian Department of Transport studied five possible sites for Montreal's new airport: Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (50 km (31 mi) to the southeast), Vaudreuil-Dorion (40 km (25 mi) to the west), Joliette (70 km (43 mi) to the north), St-Amable (30 km (19 mi) to the southeast), and Ste-Scholastique (60 km (37 mi) to the northwest).
Taschereau Bridge is a bridge linking Pincourt, on Île Perrot, to Vaudreuil-Dorion, in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges RMC across the West Channel of the Ottawa River.The bridge was originally built in 1925, and was doubled in 1964, as part of the same project as Galipeault Bridge, which links the island to Montreal Island, but it has been maintained independently since then.
