Suzuki Magoichi. Suzuki Magoichi (鈴木孫一、鈴木孫市), better known as Saiga Magoichi or Saika Magoichi (雑賀孫一、雑賀孫市), (c. 1534 – c. May 2, 1589) was the name given to the leader of the Saika Ikki. He is famous for arming his troops with arquebuses and donning the yatagarasu as his family crest.
The Saika ikki or Saiga Ikki (雑賀一揆), based in Ōta in the Kii Province (now part of Wakayama Prefecture) of Honshū, were one of many ikkō-ikki mercenary groups in feudal Japan. Those in Ōta, led by Suzuki Magoichi, were better known as Saika Magoichi. Saika-ikki was formed by several peasant and noble people.
Suzuki Shigeoki (鈴木重意, 1511–1585) was a prominent and reputed leader of the Saika Ikki throughout the latter years of the Sengoku period of feudal Japan. [1] He was also referred to as Suzuki Sadayū (佐大夫), and one of the men who use the nickname Saika Magoichi. He is Shigehide and Shigetomo's father (though the former is disputed).
