Local legend asserts that he was the first Methodist Episcopal preacher in what has since become the Cincinnati metropolitan area, [2] although Ohio's oldest Methodist church was formed in a preacher's house at Milford in 1797. The rededication was led by Dr. David H. Moore. After the church moved in 1960 to the city of Cambridge, a community organization, Bethel Community Church, Inc., was formed to protect the building from alteration or destruction, and the East Ohio Annual Conference sold them the building for one dollar.
