The rankings of each college in the Norrington Table are calculated by awarding 5 points for a student who receives a First Class degree, 3 points for a 2:1, 2 for a 2:2 and 1 for a Third; the total is then divided by the maximum possible score (i.e. the number of finalists in that college multiplied by 5), and the result for each college is expressed as a percentage, rounded to 2 decimal places.
The corresponding ranking for Oxford colleges is the Norrington Table. Since 1986, when the University of Oxford adopted split second-class degrees, the Norrington Table has adopted the same method of scoring as the Tompkins Table, but without the weighting attached to individual subject scores.
As the table only took into account the examination results for the year of publication, college rankings could fluctuate considerably. Beginning in 2005, the University of Oxford started publishing a list of colleges classified by a "Norrington Score", effectively replicating the Norrington Table.
Sir Arthur Lionel Pugh Norrington (27 October 1899 – 21 May 1982) was a British publisher, President of Trinity College, Oxford, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, [1] and creator, in 1963, of a scoring system for The Times' table of Oxford colleges' examination results which since then has been known as the Norrington Table.
In 2019, the college ranked 2nd in the Norrington Table, with a score of 77.93% and with 68 out of 145 total Finalists achieving first-class honours. [52] In 2018, the college ranked 3rd with a score of 78.15% and with around 50% of Finalists achieving first-class honors, [ 53 ] climbing from 26th place in 2017 when it had a score of 68.68%.

Academically, Lincoln was one of the top ten in the Norrington Table each year from 2006 to 2015 (excluding 2010 and 2011). [12] [13] Lincoln ranked third in the Norrington Table in 2021 [14] and second in 2022. [15] The college is associated with the Goblin Club, an exclusive all-male dining society founded in 1902. [16]
