Lytham St Annes (/ ˈ l ɪ ð əm s ən t ˈ æ n z /) [2] is a seaside town in the Borough of Fylde in Lancashire, England.It is on the Fylde coast, directly south of Blackpool on the Ribble Estuary.
The Blackpool, St. Annes and Lytham Tramways Company purchased the assets of the former company for £115,000 (equivalent to £15,720,000 in 2023), [3] and in 1900 an act authorised an electric tramway to rebuild the route. The newly electrified tramway was opened on 28 May 1903.
St Annes-on-the-Sea railway station serves the town of St Annes-on-the Sea, commonly known as St Annes, which is part of the conurbation of Lytham St Annes in Lancashire, England. It is located on the Blackpool South to Preston railway line 3 + 1 ⁄ 4 miles (5.2 km) south-southeast of Blackpool South.
St Annes Pier is a Victorian era pleasure pier in the English seaside resort of St Annes-on-the-Sea, Lancashire. It lies on the estuary of the River Ribble . The pier, designed by Alfred Dowson, [ 1 ] was completed in 1885 and was one of the earliest public buildings in St Annes, a 19th-century planned town.
Established in 1885, Blackpool Transport serves Lytham, St Annes-on-the-Sea, Blackpool, Bispham, Thornton, Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Poulton-le-Fylde and Knott-End-on-Sea. [3] Its main bus interchange is the Blackpool Bus Hub, on Market Street and Corporation Street in Blackpool town centre, which replaced Blackpool bus station .
The route of the former excursion line into Blackpool Central is now used as a link road from the M55 motorway to the town centre. The line into Blackpool via Lytham St Annes now has a station serving Blackpool Pleasure Beach but terminates at Blackpool South station. The line into North station is now the more important.
The conurbation of Lytham St Annes is served by three stations: Lytham, Ansdell and Fairhaven (adjacent to the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club) and St Annes. Northern runs trains from here to Blackpool South and to Kirkham, Preston and Colne once an hour all week (including Sundays); [1] these services are much less frequent than those to Blackpool North.
Saint Mary's and St Anne's Cathedral is both the seat of the Bishop of Cork and Ross, and the parish church for the Cathedral parish which includes the areas of Blarney Street, Shandon and Blackpool. Baptismal records date back to 1731. [3] The parish boundary had also included the areas of Blackpool and Clogheen/Kerry Pike until 1981.
