Lord Kelvin was commemorated on the £20 note issued by the Clydesdale Bank in 1971; in the current issue of banknotes, his image appears on the bank's £100 note. He is shown holding his adjustable compass and in the background is a map of the transatlantic cable.
Treatise on Natural Philosophy was an 1867 text book by William Thomson (later Lord Kelvin) and Peter Guthrie Tait, published by Oxford University Press. The Treatise was often referred to as T {\displaystyle T} and T 1 {\displaystyle T^{1}} , as explained by Alexander Macfarlane : [ 1 ] : 43
Between 1870 and 1890 the vortex atom theory, which hypothesised that an atom was a vortex in the aether, was popular among British physicists and mathematicians. William Thomson, who became better known as Lord Kelvin, first conjectured that atoms might be vortices in the aether that pervades space.
The Kelvin water dropper, invented by Scottish scientist William Thomson (Lord Kelvin) in 1867, [1] is a type of electrostatic generator. Kelvin referred to the device as his water-dropping condenser. The apparatus is variously called the Kelvin hydroelectric generator, the Kelvin electrostatic generator, or Lord Kelvin's thunderstorm.

Trivial knots, or unknots. Knots have been used for basic purposes such as recording information, fastening and tying objects together, for thousands of years. The early significant stimulus in knot theory would arrive later with Sir William Thomson (Lord Kelvin) and his vortex theory of the atom.
It tells the origin story of Mufasa (voiced by Aaron Pierre), an orphan lion who becomes best friends with Prince Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), better known as Scar, and is adopted by his family ...
Lord Kelvin originated the idea of universal heat death in 1852. In 1852, Thomson published On a Universal Tendency in Nature to the Dissipation of Mechanical Energy , in which he outlined the rudiments of the second law of thermodynamics summarized by the view that mechanical motion and the energy used to create that motion will naturally tend ...
