"Zindagi Ek Safar Hai" (transl. Life is a journey) is a song from the Hindi film Andaz, composed by the duo of Shankar Jaikishan, written by Hasrat Jaipuri and sung by Kishore Kumar. [1] The song topped the annual list of Binaca Geetmala for 1971.
The first version on Rishi Kapoor as a young and energetic man who sings the song in the front of the crowd. The song was sung by veteran singer Kishore Kumar. The song directed, produced by R.D. Burman for his album of the film. The song was the biggest hit of the time. [2] The film was also third highest grossing of the year.
Baap Re Baap, a musical comedy, was a great success and brought a big improvement in the career of Kishore Kumar. [3] He acted in a total of sixty-eight films from 1953 to 1968. [4] The film starred Kishore Kumar, Chand Usmani in lead roles, supported by Smriti Biswas, Jayant, Ulhas, Leela Mishra. [5]
In the scene where Kishore Kumar drinks what he thinks is poison, he says "Khush raho ahl-e vatan, hum to safar karte hain"(Stay happy, fellow countrymen). These lines were later incorporated into the song 'Raah pe chalte hain', written by Gulzar for the 1982 film Namkeen.
He made this song as a tribute to Rishi Kapoor, who just passed away then. Harshit Shah addressed him as the true showman of Bollywood. [7] In January 2022, actor Amit Tandon recreated this song with rehashed music. He himself sang it and cited that he is a big fan of Kishore Kumar, the singer of this song. [8]
