Brandt, 1851 [1] Pandalus platyceros, also called California spot prawn (as well as Santa Barbara spot prawn and Monterey Bay spot prawn[2]) or Alaskan prawn, is a shrimp of the genus Pandalus. [1] Spot shrimp are a large shrimp found in the North Pacific. They range from the clean waters off Unalaska Island, Alaska, to San Diego.
The spot is a very important fish for both recreational and commercial fishing. In 2021 the total landing of spot in the Southern Atlantic sector of US waters was 322 t (317 long tons; 355 short tons) with 71% of that coming from recreational fishermen and 29% from commercial fisheries. 64% of the commercial landings were in Virginia. Pandalus. Pandalus (cold-water prawn) is a genus of shrimp in the family Pandalidae. Members of the genus are medium-sized and live on or near the seabed. Some species are the subject of commercial fisheries and are caught by trawling. One species, Pandalus montagui, lives in association with the reef-building polychaete worm, Sabellaria spinulosa.

Pandalus montagui is a translucent, pinkish shrimp, generally growing to about 5 cm (2.0 in) long. Its colour is due to a number of red chromatophores and the few short red streaks running obliquely on the carapace.
