Woodhouse College is a single site selective state sixth form centre situated between North Finchley and Friern Barnet on the eastern side of the London Borough of Barnet in North London, England. It is one of the most successful sixth form colleges in England and is a member of The Maple Group.
Admission to the school is strictly by academic selection, and boys may apply to join the school for Year 7. Roughly 3,600 applicants compete in a series of examinations to be awarded one of the 192 places offered annually, making places at the grammar school some of the most sought after and oversubscribed in the country. The school admits pupils aged 3 – 18. Known as SMSJ, it was created by the London Diocesan Board for Schools and London Borough of Barnet to provide a mixed Church of England-based education up to sixth form for an increasing number of pupils in the Barnet area. It was the first all-through school in Barnet.
It falls under the London Borough of Barnet Local Education Authority for admissions. Since September 2018, Christ’s College Finchley has offered education to both girls and boys joining Year 7. The school presently has 860 pupils and specialises in Maths and Sciences.
JCoSS opened a year at a time, with up to 180 students joining Year 7 each year until the school was fully populated with around 1360 students. Its sixth form opened in 2012. The school, whose current headteacher is Melanie Lee, [5] [6] has specialist status in science.
