The Noor Islamic Cultural Center (NICC) is a cultural center and mosque in Columbus, Ohio, USA. The building was started in 2001 and completed in 2006. [ 1 ] NICC is the first Islamic center to become a polling place in Central Ohio.
A Muslim cemetery still existed there in 1996. [2] [3] However, the first purpose-built mosque building was most likely the Highland Park Mosque in Detroit, Michigan, which opened in 1921. The R Section of the cemetery, county-owned and used for North Graveyard reburials since the 1800s, was marked with an artwork named Departed Denizens, a 32,000-lb. granite boulder with a bronze wolf sculpture atop it in 2020. The sculpture is dedicated to these early city residents, and was designed by Ohio artist Mike Major.
