The International Quilt Museum [3] was founded in 1997 when native Nebraskans Ardis and Robert James donated their collection of nearly 950 quilts to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Their contribution became the centerpiece of what is now the largest publicly held quilt collection in the world.
In the late 1990s, James became increasingly involved with activities at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He served on the inaugural advisory board of the International Quilt Study Center & Museum, [59] (now the International Quilt Museum [60]) which was founded at the university in 1997. [61]
The museum is recognized by USA Today as one of the world's top quilt displays. [1] [2] This textile museum supports local and expert quilters by providing workshops and other educational activities. [3] The National Quilt Museum was established by Bill and Meredith Schroeder of Paducah and opened to the public on April 25, 1991.
Although quilt-making became less popular nationwide during the mid 20th century, Snyder continued to produce work throughout her adult life. [ 7 ] The Congress of Quilters Hall of Fame in Arlington, Virginia , inducted her in 1980, as did the Nebraska Quilters Hall of Fame in 1986.
