Construction was completed on the new high school in summer, 2010, and junior high and high school classes and athletics occupied the new facility beginning Fall, 2010. Thereafter, a complete gutting and remodel of the old elementary school began, with elementary classes occupying the old high school building for the 2010-2011 school year.
The high school was originally located on Diamond Blvd, Southmont Borough. The former high school became the Westmont Hilltop Middle School. The School District closed the Middle School in June 2016. Grades 5-6 were moved to leased space adjacent to the Elementary School at 675 Goucher Street. Grades 7-8 were moved to the High School campus.
Kenwood High school received a 39.6 out of a possible 90 points (43%) on the 2018-2019 Maryland State Department of Education Report Card and received a 2 out of 5 star rating, ranking in the 19th percentile among all Maryland schools.
Plano West was established in the fall of 1999 on the campus of the newly renovated Shepton High School. Plano West is accredited by the Texas Education Agency, done through its accreditation of Plano ISD. The school colors are royal blue, black, and white, and the mascot is the wolf, with the student body being known as "the wolf-pack."
