Mukinbudin is a small town in the north eastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 298 kilometres (185 mi) east of Perth and 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Merredin near Lake Campion. It is the main town in the Shire of Mukinbudin. At the 2021 Australian census, Mukinbudin had a population of 336.
Merredin / ˈ m ɛr ə d ɪ n / is a town in Western Australia, located in the central Wheatbelt roughly midway between Perth and Kalgoorlie, on Route 94, Great Eastern Highway. It is located on the route of the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme , and as a result is also on the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail .
The Shire of Merredin is a local government area in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 250 kilometres (155 mi) east of Perth, the state capital. Its seat of government is the town of Merredin, where 2,804 of the Shire's 3,595 residents live. The Shire covers an area of 3,300 square kilometres (1,274 sq mi).
Corrigin is a town in the central Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, 229 kilometres (142 mi) east-southeast of the state capital, Perth, Western Australia, along State Route 40. It is mostly a farming community focused on crops and sheep, and holds the world record of "the most dogs in a ute ".
Wyalkatchem is a town in the central Wheatbelt region, 192 kilometres (119 mi) east-north-east of Perth, 35 kilometres (22 mi) east of Dowerin and 44 kilometres (27 mi) south of Koorda. At the 2021 census, Wyalkatchem had a population of 358. The town won the state tidy town award in 2000 and 2002, and then won the national award in 2003. [3]
The name is Aboriginal in origin and is taken from the nearby Muntadgin Soak, which first appeared on maps of the area in 1912. Currently the town still has a wheat siding, the Muntadgin hotel that provides meals and accommodation, and recreation facilities, including a golf course. The town celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2005. [5]
The town was gazetted in 1891. It takes its name from Burracoppin Rock, a nearby granite rock, the name of which was first recorded in 1864 as Burancooping Rock. It was also shown as Lansdowne Hill in 1836. It is an Aboriginal name said to mean "near a big hill". [2] [3]
Dumbleyung Lake Grace Road is a major east–west road linking Dumbleyung and Lake Grace, near the southern edge of the Wheatbelt. The road passes to the north of Kukerin near the halfway point. [6] It is part of State Route 107, which continues west to Bunbury and east to Lake King. [9]
