Bowmanstown is a borough in Carbon County, Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 937 at the 2010 census. [3] The borough is at an elevation of 437 feet (133 m). It is located 3 miles (5 km) west of Palmerton and 4 miles (6 km) south of Lehighton off Pennsylvania Route 248.
In 1969, the Eastern Pennsylvania Mennonite Church and Related Areas had 27 congregations with 1,181 church members; in 1995 it had 59 churches with 3,434 members. [3] In 2001 there were 4,206 members. [4] In 2010, it had 77 congregations with 5,333 members. In 2020 it had 95 congregations, 6,656 members, 27 Bishops, 179 Ministers and 113 Deacons.
Founded in 1930 by Bishop Sherrod C. Johnson, [1] [2] the church grew into a network of church locations steming from New England to Florida and as far west as California. After Johnson's death in early 1961, the church continued under the ministry of the late Bishop S. McDowell Shelton. [3]
