Harrisburg is located in southwestern Cabarrus County. It is bordered to the north by Concord and to the west by Charlotte in Mecklenburg County. North Carolina Highway 49 passes through the center of Harrisburg, leading northeast 57 miles (92 km) to Asheboro and southwest 13 miles (21 km) to the center of Charlotte.

As of the 2020 census, the population was 225,804, making it the 9th-most populous county in North Carolina. [3] The county seat is Concord, [4] which was incorporated in 1803.

Middletown is a borough in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, on the Susquehanna River, 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Harrisburg. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 9,550. [4] It is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area.
