The Journal of Accounting Research (JAR) is a leading peer-reviewed academic journal associated with the University of Chicago.It was established in 1963 and is published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Chookaszian Accounting Research Center (Formerly the Institute of Professional Accounting) at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
The Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council then voiced its concerns due to the increase of financial reporting guidance from the old U.S. GAAP standards, and the FASB responded by launching a new project to codify the standards. The purpose of the project is to have students perform research about technology used in accounting and about accounting topics in general. The objective is to reduce misinformation about accounting related topics and to add to accurate accounting information on the internet.
