Rizal Day (Spanish: Día de Rizal, Filipino: Araw ni Rizal; Tagalog:) is a Philippine national holiday commemorating life and works of José Rizal, a national hero of the Philippines. It is celebrated every December 30, the anniversary of Rizal's 1896 execution at Bagumbayan (present-day Rizal Park ) in Manila .

The annual Independence Day (June 12), Rizal Day (December 30) and New Year's Eve (December 31) celebrations are held at the park. The park was the traditional end of the Marlboro Tour (now known as the Tour de Filipinas ), the national road bicycle racing event every April or May.
The shrine has a large lawn with a replica of the nipa hut and a statue depicting young Rizal with his dog. The statue was constructed in 1996 by Dudley Diaz for the centennial celebration commemorating Rizal's death. [3] [9] The remains of Rizal's parents, Francisco Rizal Mercado and Teodora Alonso Realonda, are also located in the shrine. [10]
