Fort Stewart is named for Brigadier General Daniel Stewart, a hero of the Revolutionary War and a political leader from Liberty County, Georgia. The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved on 6 July 1967. On 21 October 1972, HHC, 260th was transferred to Fort Stewart.
