Galway captain David Burke accepted the Liam MacCarthy Cup from GAA president Aogán Ó Fearghail in the Hogan Stand. During his speech Burke paid tribute to the late Tony Keady and Niall Donoghue. [33] The Galway team then did a victory lap around Croke Park with the trophy. [34] [35]
Burke later won three Galway SHC titles and was at midfield for the two-point defeat of Kilcormac/Killoughey in the 2013 All-Ireland club final. [2] Burke's inter-county career with Galway began with a two-year association with the minor team. He was an All-Ireland MHC runner-up in his first year with the team in 2001. [3]
They were crowned Galway Senior Champions for the first time in 2012 by defeating Loughrea in the final on a scoreline of 3–11 to 2–11 in Pearse Stadium. They followed this up by taking the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship by defeating Kilcormac-Killoughy on St Patrick's Day.
