Shidler was founded in December 1921 and named for Eugene S. Shidler, a Pawhuska banker and rancher. The town grew rapidly to a population of approximately 5,000 due to the discovery of petroleum nearby (see Whizbang) and the arrival of the Osage Railway (one of the Muskogee Roads) in February 1922.
Foraker had the amenities associated with older communities: sidewalks, a public park, and plans for an electric and water system and a substantial school building. [ 8 ] The agriculture boom subsided, but the town was briefly revitalized by discovery of the Burbank Oil Field in 1920, which made Foraker an oil industry equipment supply center.
Shidler Public Schools is a school district headquartered in Shidler, Oklahoma.It includes W. G. Ward Elementary School, [1] [2] and Shidler Middle and High Schools. [3]The district boundary is mostly in Osage County and includes Shidler, Foraker, Grainola, Webb City, and a portion of Burbank. [4]
Thackerville is situated near the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and State Highway 153, five miles north of the Texas state line and ten miles south of Marietta in south central Love County.
