75000666. Added to NRHP. March 7, 1975. The Dundee Township Historic District is a set of sixty-five buildings in Dundee Township, Kane County Illinois. Buildings in the district are found in East Dundee, West Dundee, and Carpentersville. The district represents the development of the upper Fox River Valley from 1870 to the 1920s.
The Illinois park, the third to be built, was intended to be the flagship of a chain of Santa's Villages across the country. However, parks planned for Richmond, Virginia, and Cherry Hill, New Jersey, were never built, and the park in East Dundee became the last of its kind. The park operated as Santa's Village from 1959 until 2006, when it closed.
Males had a median income of $64,575 versus $33,723 for females. The per capita income for the village was $52,929. About 7.5% of families and 10.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.5% of those under age 18 and 8.6% of those age 65 or over.
