Our VT Castings Stardance stove is beautiful and throws out great heat, but ever since purchasing it we have experienced a stinky smell every time we burn it that occurs for the first month or 2 each winter. I have seen both of these cast-iron gas stoves. Here are the stats for them: Quadra-Fire Topaz. BTU Input NG: 26,500 - 39,500 Top Vent. BTU Input LP: 30,500 - 38,000 Top Vent. Efficiency: up to 85%. Convection Blower: 160 cfm. Weight: 275 lbs. Vermont Castings Radiance.
The castings and fit/finish were of extremely high quality as was the enameling. However, these early stoves were not as easy to burn and service as were some of their competitors like Jotul, Upland and the multitudes of steel models. VC (Vermont Castings) was ONLY sold direct to customers in the early years (1976-1980).

I have a Vermont Castings Stardance (SDV30RF) direct vent gas stove . It uses gas logs. Mine is actually made for propane but has a conversion kit that allows me to use it with natural gas. My model is no longer made by Vermont Castings. I love this stove. It comes with a remote control that's made by Honeywell (RT8220A 1032).
