In 1950 Faulkner became the first rookie to win pole position at the Indianapolis 500. He died in 1956 after a qualifying crash at a USAC Stock Car event in Vallejo, California . Earlier in his career, Faulkner raced motorcycles, then switched to midget cars , later driving for the Edelbrock dirt track racing team.
Loziers were luxury cars and for a time were the most expensive cars produced in the United States. The 1910 model line featured cars priced between $4,600 and $7,750, (equivalent to $253,425 in 2023). [1] The company was moved to Detroit in 1910. In 1911, a Lozier was entered into the first running of the Indianapolis 500.
The Indianapolis 500 was included in the FIA World Championship of Drivers from 1950 through 1960. The race was sanctioned by AAA through 1955 , and then by USAC beginning in 1956 . At the time the new world championship was announced and first organized by the CSI , the United States did not yet have a Grand Prix .
The Hoosier Grand Prix was a sports car, Formula Libre, and Champ Car race held at Indianapolis Raceway Park between 1961 and 1994. The race began as a round of the USAC Road Racing Championship . After being run for sports cars in its first year, the race switched to Formula Libre for the next two.
The Ford Indy V8 engine is a naturally-aspirated, DOHC, V-8, Indy car racing engine, initially specially designed by Ford for use by Team Lotus (but later used by other teams as well), to compete in the Indianapolis 500; from 1963 to 1967.
