The story begins with the Pattabhishekam (coronation) of Rama and the brief period of Rama Rajyam. However, after hearing accusations from a washerman about Sita's chastity, Rama sends her into exile. In the forest, Sita gives birth to Lava and Kusa. As they grow up, the twins eventually visit Ayodhya.
According to the father's wish Rama with Sita and Lakshmana goes to the forest. Bharata instead of becoming the crown king, as his mother's wish, goes to the forest and requests Rama to return to Ayodhya. Refusing to disobey the orders of their father, he gives away his Padukas to Bharata.
It is also said that after the slaying of Ravana, Rama performed the "Pattabhishekam" (ascension to king of Lanka) for Vibhishana at this place. [2] [3] The story is depicted in painting across the walls inside the shrine. [4]
