Sahara Las Vegas is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. It is owned and operated by the Meruelo Group. The hotel has 1,616 rooms, [1] and the casino contains 50,662 square feet (4,706.7 m 2). [2] The Sahara anchors the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip, at the corner of Sahara Avenue.
Sahara Avenue is a major east-west roadway in the Las Vegas Valley. The former State Route 589 (SR 589) comprised a large portion of the street. The roadway is named after the Sahara Hotel and Casino, which itself is named after the Sahara desert. The casino is located on Las Vegas Boulevard where the boulevard intersects with Sahara Avenue.

The Las Vegas Strip is a stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard in Clark County, Nevada, that is known for its concentration of resort hotels and casinos. The Strip, as it is known, is about 4.2 mi (6.8 km) long, [1] and is immediately south of the Las Vegas city limits in the unincorporated towns of Paradise and Winchester, but is often referred to simply as "Las Vegas".
By 2001, SR 596 was decommissioned between Sahara Avenue and Charleston Boulevard. As late as 2006, SR 596 was officially defined to exist in two sections. The southern section began at Tropicana Avenue and ran north along Jones Boulevard 3.061 miles (4.926 km) to the Las Vegas city limits at Sahara Avenue.
