The Society of Women Artists (SWA) is a British art body dedicated to celebrating and promoting fine art created by women. It was founded as the Society of Female Artists (SFA) in 1855, offering women artists the opportunity to exhibit and sell their works. Annual exhibitions have been held in London since 1857, with some wartime interruptions.
Its alumni include politicians, members of the judiciary, academics, industrialists, artists, athletes and journalists. This list also includes non-collegiate students affiliated to Cambridge University, known as students of Fitzwilliam House , prior to the granting of collegiate status in 1966.

It sponsors exhibitions, awards and prizes, and organizes lectures and special events.
In 1992, Valerie Pearl, the President of New Hall, wrote to 100 of the leading women artists in Britain and received some 75 donations in return. [2] The collection continues to acquire works by gifts and loans from artists and alumnae. It is the largest collection of art by women in Europe and about 95 per cent of it is displayed. [3]
