Powelliphanta augusta or the Mount Augustus snail, previously provisionally known as Powelliphanta "Augustus", is a species of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.
Powelliphanta is a genus of large, air-breathing land snails, pulmonate gastropods in the family Rhytididae, found only in New Zealand. They are carnivorous , eating invertebrates , mostly native earthworms.
She conducted a national survey of the snails, and discovered a new species on Stockton Plateau, Powelliphanta augusta. She assisted in the efforts to maintain the snail populations in fridges once their habitat was destroyed by mining, and advocated for the restoration of their habitat. [ 1 ]
