Batman: The Ride theming at Six Flags Great America. The decorative theme of Batman: The Ride attempts to capture the spirit of the fictional Gotham City for those queuing to board the ride. As the queue moves through Gotham City Park, [41] the theme transitions from bright and peaceful, to dark and ominous. [42]
Batman: The Ride is a 4D Free Spin roller coaster at two Six Flags parks in North America since 2015. [3] As the name suggests, Batman: The Ride is themed to the DC Comics superhero, Batman.
The coaster was released to the public on April 20, 2002. In 2008, the ride's name was changed to Batman: The Ride to avoid confusion with Six Flags New England's installation of The Dark Knight Coaster that was planned to be built at the park, but after the project was cancelled, the ride's name reverted to Batman: The Dark Knight.

The concept to add inversions to the inverted roller coaster was first developed by Jim Wintrode, general manager of Six Flags Great America, in the 1990s. [1] [2] Wintrode worked with Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard – from Swiss roller coaster manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard – along with engineer Robert Mampe to develop Batman: The Ride which opened at Six Flags Great America in 1992.

The park added a Hopkins river raft ride named Blizzard River to the North End, replacing a set of dry slides and the old Bumper Cars. Blizzard River was themed to incorporate the Penguin character from the Batman franchise, but the name of the ride was never changed when the park was allowed to use characters from DC Comics on their rides.
The third DC Universe themed area would come with the introduction of Batman: The Ride was introduced at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. [5] [6] With the announcement for Batman: The Ride on August 30, 2018, the themed area was not announced until later the following year, in March 2019. [7]
