I have gone as low as 6 lb test/ 2 lb mono diameter and as high as 30 lb test/ 12 lb diameter depending on various factors, but that 14 lb does the lions share of spinning reel duty for me. All my panfish reels also have Fireline on them as well. Here 6 lb/ 2 lb mono diameter is the most used but I've gone lower.
I still have an older Daiwa Regal 2500 spinning reel but the Pfluger President I bought at the same time is a better reel IMO and I paid about 1/2 as much for it. Just my 2 cents worth. Dobyns Rods Titan Tungsten Abu Garcia Berkley Pflueger Spiderwire

Most will describe the noise as anywhere from a high pitched squeal to a chirping or clicking noise that occurs during the cast. Almost everyone says that the bearings are making the noise. On reels that I have serviced, the most common complaint after some time of using ...
July 20, 2019, 07:00:09 AM. The President is a bullet proof reel with an excellent track record. The Fuego is a newer reel with an excellent following so far. Hey guys. I got a couple of extreme spinning rods on the way (742 and 743) and will be looking for the right reels. That's not to say that a smaller reel won't handle some saltwater fish, but the line capacity for a larger size reel, allows me to use a stronger line and still have plenty of capacity for casting light lures. I would look at the Daiwa BG series spinning reels for a reel that works well in both environments.
I'm going to buy a spinning reel to pair with my new Dobyns 702 for finesse fishing. Will use for dropshot, ned rigs, weightless plastics, possibly shaky head. I will be in the $79 range. There are quite a few reels that appear decent.
