Have been copying photos from phone to pc for years without trouble. Windows photo app says "can't open this file because the format is currently unsupported or the file is corrupted. I can toggle settings on the phone photos to show heic or jpg format with Automatic or Keep Originals settings. Neither works properly.
The real answer is that you can get to your photos easily on a Windows computer and copy them easily to any folder (directory) you want. People who say you cannot do it are wrong. On a Windows computer the iPhoto library will appear in Windows Explorer as a Folder with the same name as the iPhoto library.
Apple devices can create HEIF, HEIC & HEVC files that can be shared with Microsoft Windows users. It is possible to convert these files to formats Windows can natively view before or after sharing. If however the files are not converted, what is required for Windows 10 & 11 apps to view these files?
Photos won't sync from Mac to iPhone or icloud.com I did the unthinkable: I migrated to Photos all my digital-camera-taken photos from 2003 to 2008, which were previously only saved locally on my machine. Thanks to Photos' helpful import assistant, I was able to preserve all of the original folder organization, which is quite complex.
Simply change the file name after editing to sync the changes to iCloud Photos. I spent 4 hours in chat, phone calls, and VNC sessions with Apple support personnel this weekend, so any wrong settings etc. can be ruled out.

Why are photos imported from iPhone into Photos (Mac) without retaining the date the photo was taken? Instead, Photos sorts all photos by Import Date -- not useful at all if you are looking to use the Photos app as a storage tool for the life of your photos across multiple iPhones, or even one iPhone. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks.
The photos are not corrupted on my phone before transferring. I have tried importing photos using all the methods (Windows File Explorer, Photos App, etc), and this issue persists. I do not use (nor do I want to use) a paid iCloud subscription to transfer photos so that won't work for a solution. Please advise.
