Juneau Jazz & Classics is a private, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization. Its mission is to provide a rich musical experience to music lovers in Juneau, the remote towns of Southeast Alaska, and the State of Alaska. Most of the 2020 festival was scrapped, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The name "Juneau" was submitted, in honour of Pierre Juneau, the first head of the CRTC. Juneau was instrumental in establishing Canadian content regulations for broadcasters to promote Canadian musicians. [4] That name became shortened to Juno and by 1971, the awards ceremonies were referred to as the "Juno Awards". [7]

Juneau hosts the annual Alaska Folk Festival, Juneau Jazz & Classics music festival, and Celebration, a biennial Alaska Native cultural festival. A city-owned ski resort, Eaglecrest is on Douglas Island. Auk Village Totem 458. The city-owned Treadwell ice-skating rink is located on the south end of Douglas Island.

[1] 2021's Fest will mark the 50th annual Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival, making it the second longest running jazz fest in the United States behind only the Newport Jazz Fest. The Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society was founded in 1971, to help keep the memory and musical accomplishments of Beiderbecke alive. [1]
