The National Softball Association (NSA) “is a sporting governing body. The NSA gives softball teams the opportunity to play in qualifying tournaments for State, National - Regional and World Series Tournament play. The USA Softball adult program began in 1934. With over 170,000 teams, 2.5 million players, and 500,000 coaches involved on an annual basis, the adult program is the largest USA Softball program. The Sunbirds were coached by Tim Kiernan, one of the most prolific coaches in Northern California community college history. At Sacramento City College, Kiernan had won more than 800 games, three state championships, and a national championship.
