The Lynn Memorial City Hall and Auditorium is a large Art Deco building that defines the civic heart of Lynn, Massachusetts.The building serves three functions: first, it houses the city's principal offices, including the mayor's office, as well as the chambers of the city council.

Lynn is the eighth-largest municipality in Massachusetts, United States, [8] and the largest city in Essex County.Situated on the Atlantic Ocean, 3.7 miles (6.0 km) north of the Boston city line at Suffolk Downs, Lynn is part of Greater Boston's urban inner core [9] and is a major economic and cultural center of the North Shore.
Of many such halls built in the country, the Lynn GAR Hall is the largest. [2] Only 13 remain nationwide, and only this one in Massachusetts. [3] On May 7, 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The hall is now the Grand Army of the Republic Museum.
The Lynn Item Building is a historic commercial building at 38-54 Exchange Street in downtown Lynn, Massachusetts. It was built in 1900-1901 to a design by local architect Henry Warren Rogers . [ 2 ]
A number of Lynn's significant civic and religious buildings lie within the district. The main library building is separately listed on the National Register, as are the armory, and St. Stephen's Memorial Episcopal Church. [2] The Lynn Memorial City Hall and Auditorium building lies just off the common to the east.
