PASM bodies (XH, XS GFX) don't have a physical exposure comp dial. The exposure comp can be asigned one of various controls, e.g. command dial. When shooting in P/A/S, the user's chosen exposure comp value will be dispalyed on screen as a numerical value and/or a visual meter ; When shooting on M, this value/meter now behaves as a light meter.

In the extremes of the exposure triangle, the camera will have only one choice - if the ISO is already on the low end (a very bright image), the camera will change the shutter speed; with a very dark image, when the shutter speed is already low, the camera will raise the ISO.
If the lens is set to f/11 or f/16, and the shutter dial is set to a fixed speed (i.e., it's not set to A) then you're in manual mode.
