On most of the projects I work on the HVAC contractors use the MC Mini Split cable. I can't believe the cable and connectors are really that expensive compared to the overall cost of all the HVAC equipment. The connectors are a standard PVC jacketed MC cable (aka "parking deck") connector.
The Mrcool unit I purchased came with 14/4 SOOW, SJOW, and TC-ER control cable for the 3 wall units installed at 25ft, 50ft, and 75ft from condenser, but according to electrical code cables cannot be run through interior walls like NM cable. I am finishing a basement so I have complete access to...
I recently purchased a ductless mini split and am trying figure out the correct breaker and wire size. Currently I have a 220v, 30 amp breaker with 10 AWG Romex. The electrical characteristics for my LG ductless mini split are as follows: MOP 35 amps MCA 23 amps Cooling rated amps 17.55 Heating rated amps 17.55 Compressor 17.3 amps Fan 0.25 amps
May 1, 2023. #11. Issue happening with the mini splits I've seen is that there is no neutral connection inside the exterior main unit that is only 240V (normal on original type hvac) yet the interior power heads are 120V, powered from the main unit. This forces the neutral current onto the ground, thus tripping the gfci.
One of the electrical contractors is asking us to run the communication wire alongside out line set without any conduit. The other stated that this will not pass the electrical inspection and that it needs to be run separately and in conduit. This communication wire is a 14/3 that carriers 208VAC from the condenser to the head unit.
Each mini split has the inside fan, outside fan, controls, and compressor all in its nameplate MCA. So you can't just take 80% of it to get the true load without the 125% factor on the compressor. 90% may be closer but even then you're guessing unless each item in the minisplit has a nameplate amp value so you can derive everything.
Aug 30, 2017. #8. Typically the load is outside thus the 20A requirements. The Type MC or TC that is being ran inside to the indoor unit in these mini-split cables are 240V with a 24V control wire (thus why Type TC-ER-JP can be used now in one - and two family). The actual load inside is not an issue.
Install a 15A CB on the hot lines of the 14/3. 3. Make the manufacturer fight it out with the inspector. If the instructions actually dictate a 14/3 (and not a minimum of a 14/3), choice 1 would violate the manufacturer's instructions, and thus violate the NEC WRT installing IAW manufacturer's instructions.
Because of this, the NEC is processing a Tentative Interim Amendment on 210.8(F) in order to delay the implementation for these mini-split systems until January 1, 2023. This TIA is currently in the public comment stage before it goes back to the committee for deliberation and action.
We have approved plans for a manual fire alarm system with notification throughout in a restaurant, A-3 occupancy. The plans show connections to duct smoke detectors provided by the HVAC contractor & fire alarm relays for HVAC shutdown. Today we learned that the HVAC units are ductless split...
