Chitré is the capital of the Panamanian province of Herrera. Located in the northeast of the Azuero Peninsula, the district of Chitré has a population of 60,500 inhabitants.3 At present, approximately 100,000 inhabitants live in the metropolitan area of the city of Chitre, including the small towns of La Villa de Los Santos, Pesé, Parita and other towns.
