Optimus Primal (voiced by Garry Chalk) is the commander of the Axalon crew and the main character of both Beast Wars and Beast Machines whose beast mode is a gorilla. Optimus starts off the series as a charismatic and competent but young and inexperienced leader.

Megatron X kills his prime universe counterpart before Bumblebee steals the Matrix and races to the planetary border, with Optimus soon coming to Bumblebee's aid. Within Megatron's Matrix, the last of Windblade's memory fragments learns from the spirit of the alternate Optimus that this Matrix must be destroyed to defeat Megatron X.
When Optimus Prime is brainwashed by Quintessa, Optimus fights on the ship with Bumblebee, the latter regaining his voice, enabling Optimus to remember him and his allies. Bumblebee participates in the final battle on Stonehenge to prevent Quintessa's plans to bring Cybertron on Earth, in addition to kill Unicron on that planet as well.
