Margaret Elizabeth Regular was born in 1935, in Pendleton, South Carolina, the daughter of Daniel and Annie Regular. [1] She moved to Detroit with her family in 1945; her father worked in the automobile industry there. She attended Wayne State University before she married in 1951, and later earned her bachelor's degree there in the 1960s.
