John A. Robb was born on June 1, 1792 in Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of Captain John Alexander Robb (1869-1818) and Abigail Tupper (1771-1841). Robb moved to New York, with his parents, when he was twelve years old (1804). He married Cornelia Cheney in 1818 in New York City and had eight children.
