The Three Lochs Way is a 55-kilometre (34 mi) long-distance path in Argyll and Bute in Scotland that links Balloch and Inveruglas. [2] The path crosses the Highland Boundary Fault, which divides the Scottish Highlands from the Lowlands, and is named for the three major lochs linked by the route: Loch Lomond, the Gare Loch and Loch Long. [3]
The trail was formally launched in 2012, [8] and is also designated as one of Scotland's Great Trails. [7] The Great Glen was first swum by Marathon swimmer Alina Warren, [9] who completed the 117 km in July 2012. [10] The swim used all three lochs, and river Ness, river Oich and the river Lochy instead of the canals.
The park is centred on Loch Lomond, the largest lake in Great Britain by surface area, [8] with a surface area of 71 km 2 (27.5 sq mi). [4] The loch contains many islands, including Inchmurrin, the largest fresh-water island in the British Isles. [9]
