University of Kerala (formerly known as University of Travancore) is a state-run public university in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore , Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the university.
KTU was established by the Government of Kerala through an Ordinance on 21 May 2014. [7] Kuncheria P. Isaac, a former Member Secretary of the All India Council for Technical Education, was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the university on 1 September 2014, and M. Abdul Rahman, former All India Council for Technical Education Director, was appointed as the first Pro-Vice-Chancellor. [8]
It was established in 2020 by upgrading Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (IIITM-K), established 2000. It is the 14th State University in Kerala and first Digital University in the state.
This amendment followed a 2022 interim order from the Kerala High Court, which had prohibited the University of Calicut and the University of Kerala from offering programs already available through SGOU. After the order, these universities began offering non-overlapping programmes. In 2023, the Kerala High Court reaffirmed its initial order. [7]

Entrance of Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering. The college was founded by the TKM Educational Trust, [1] an organization established by Thangal Kunju Musaliar.The college's foundation stone was laid on 3 February 1956 by Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, and was inaugurated by Humayun Kabir, the Cabinet Minister for Scientific and Cultural Affairs, on 3 July 1958.
The university is seated in Kasaragod, the northernmost district of the Indian state of Kerala. The main campus of the university is situated at Periya, 9.8 km from Kanhangad and 20 km south from Kasaragod towns. The university initially started functioning from a transit campus in Vidyanagar with its humanities schools and other amenities. [2] [3]
