In 1938 Tadas Ivanauskas established the Kaunas Zoo in the northern corner of the park. A year later Kaunas Sports Hall, which hosted Eurobasket 1939, was established near Ąžuolynas. The park's infrastructure was reconstructed in 1955; in 1966 the Valley of Songs (Lithuanian: Dainų slėnis) was installed.
A bronze horseman with a horse was placed at the castle of Kaunas on a granite pedestal. The authors of the sculpture are Lithuanian Arūnas Sakalauskas [uk; lt] and Ukrainians Boris Krylov and Olesius Sidoruk . [2] In 2019 Kaunas City museum with Kaunas Castle became a new Member of Association of Castles and Museums around the Baltic Sea.
It used to part of the old road to Lithuania's capital city Vilnius, however currently it is dedicated exclusively for pedestrians, open-air cafés, etc. [1] Most of the buildings in the street dates to the 16th century, however some were reconstructed, and the Kaunas Cathedral Basilica was built in the early 15th century.
