The first building was used from 1858 to 1884 (presently used as the Chapel of St. Ann's Academy on Humboldt Street). The second building was used from 1884 to 1892 (situated behind the current building now occupied by the St. Andrew's Square office building), after which the parish moved into the present cathedral.

The chapel, designed by Father Joseph Michaud, was built in 1858 as St. Andrew's Cathedral was moved in 1886 to be St. Ann's Chapel and is the oldest part of the Academy. [5] Later a convent was added (1887) to the west side of the Academy and behind the Academy (1910).
Initial construction on the cathedral began in 1163, but it took more than 100 years to complete. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the cathedral underwent major restorations and additions.
