Bottle of George Washington's Rye Whiskey. George Washington's Rye Whiskey is distilled at George Washington's reconstructed distillery at Mount Vernon from a recipe discovered by scholars examining the distillery ledgers for 1798 and 1799. It is distilled in limited quantities and only available for purchase in person.
The distillery was built by the Dublin Whiskey Distillery Company Ltd and the Irish whiskey produced sold around the world under the brand name D.W.D. [2] Construction began on 22 July 1872, under the supervision of founder John Brannick , and exactly one year later on the 22 July 1873, D.W.D.'s first mash was produced. [ 1 ]
The gristmill, distillery, and gift shop are open to the public from April through October. They are located approximately three miles west of Mount Vernon's main gate on Virginia Route 235. Tickets to tour the gristmill and distillery are available at Mount Vernon and the gristmill's gift shop.
